Federal authorities have announced that Travis Decker is deceased, leading to the dismissal of the case against him. Decker was a fugitive dad believed to have murdered his three daughters, though local officials in Washington state are still pending final confirmation after a potential discovery of his body last week.
The U.S. Marshals Service has informed the District Court of the Eastern District of Washington of Decker’s death, prompting prosecutors to request the dismissal of the federal case on Wednesday, as detailed in court documents. Decker faced federal charges for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Despite this, Decker still has state charges for first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping. Authorities claim he killed his three daughters, whose bodies were discovered on June 2, leading to a manhunt as he vanished into the Washington wilderness.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office reported in a news release on Friday that human remains were located in a remote forested area south of Leavenworth, Washington.

Nonetheless, the sheriff’s office stated on Wednesday that it “is not able to make a positive identification or confirmation of Mr. Decker’s status. We are currently awaiting DNA test results from the state Crime Lab, anticipated to be available within a few days.”
“Once the DNA results are confirmed, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office will hold a press conference to share findings and address any questions from the media and public.”
Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison told KIRO that the U.S. Marshals “jumped the gun” requesting the dismissal of charges against Decker. Clothing found near the remains were similar to what Decker had on when he disappeared, Morrison told the outlet.

Morrison told ABC News on Wednesday that charges against Decker won’t be dropped until they receive DNA confirmation.
