Adella Bird wins WCIA 3 Athlete of the Week

MAHOMET, Ill. (WCIA) — Mahomet-Seymour’s Adella Bird has seen big growth on the tennis court since taking up the sport as a freshman.

“I couldn’t get it over the net; it was quite embarrassing,” Bird admitted. “I’m thankful the coach let me join the team.” “That year, there were no eliminations, so I got a bit fortunate.”

As a senior now, Bird is celebrated as the Bulldogs’ record-holder for the most wins, exceeding 70 career victories earlier this season, an achievement she attributes to those who have supported her.

“It took a lot of effort, and I’m especially thankful to my dad,” Bird said. “He provided significant offseason support.” “His encouragement is constant, even when silence is required during a point, he finds a way to communicate.” “I’m incredibly grateful for my teammates and my coach, who is truly inspiring.”

Bird hopes to continue playing tennis in college.

She is also now eligible for $1,500 cash prize we’ll give away to one boy and one girl at the end of the school year.
