Manhunt on for Landscaper Accused of Killing Girlfriend in Their Home

A New York state man wanted for the stabbing death of his girlfriend earlier this month has been captured in the Adirondacks.

The Albany County District Attorney’s Office said it learned of the capture of Anthony Bechand from New York State Police, WRGB said.

Bechand, aged 53, was last spotted in Brighton on September 14, as reported by CrimeOnline. His vehicle was discovered later that same day at the junction of county Route 60 and state Route 86 in Franklin County, where it seemed to have been left unattended for several hours.

Amanda Rodriguez, 41, was discovered deceased that morning in the residence she shared with Bechand, a landscaper, in Cohoes. Police revealed that Rodriguez’s mother hadn’t heard from her, prompting her to send a friend to check on her. The friend subsequently found her body.

Officials suspect the murder occurred the day prior and initiated a search for the alleged perpetrator, with sightings of his truck at the residence during that time. Authorities requested public assistance on Tuesday for any information.

The district attorney’s office mentioned that Bechand was seen walking along a road in the Adirondacks prior to being apprehended. They indicated that formal charges would be filed by the day’s end.
