An author and spouse of a well-known musician, who purportedly shot at police officers while they were pursuing suspects unrelated to her, has been given leniency and directed to join a two-year mental health program, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

A judge opted for a mental health diversion for Jillian Lauren Shriner, 52, in lieu of imprisonment, under the condition that she provide quarterly progress updates over the next two years and abstain from alcohol or illicit substances.

“Any breach reported to the court may lead to possible cessation of the diversion. If she adheres to the diversion’s terms successfully, the court will dismiss the case,” stated a representative from the D.A.’s Office.

Shriner, married to Weezer’s bassist Scott Shriner, faced two felony charges for allegedly discharging a firearm at Los Angeles Police Department officers who were chasing individuals implicated in a hit-and-run incident.

Despite having no ties to that offense, Shriner, who writes using the last name Lauren, allegedly emerged from her home with a 9 mm gun and fired towards the officers. Officers returned fire, injuring Shriner, and subsequently apprehended her.

The police informed local station KTLA that several commands were issued for her to relinquish the weapon before being shot by officers, who hit her shoulder as she retreated into her home. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

The bizarre case stemmed from an April hit-and-run crash on the 134 Freeway in which three men were involved in a crash and abandoned the vehicle and fled into a residential neighborhood. One of the men stripped down to his underwear, jumped into a backyard pool and even watered a home’s plants in an apparent attempt to blend in.

Police searched the neighborhood near the 5300 block of Waldo Place, which led to the confrontation with Shriner and the eventual arrest of one of the suspects.

Shriner was originally booked for attempted murder, but was ultimately charged for assault with a semiautomatic firearm and willfully firing it in a negligent way.

Jillian has been married to Scott Shriner since 2005, and the couple have two sons together. She’s previously been named a New York Times bestseller for the books “Everything You Ever Wanted” and “Some Girls: My Life in a Harem,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

Scott Shriner has recorded 12 studio albums since joining Weezer in 2001. The band performed at Coachella only days after the shooting.
