Detectives are investigating the “brutal and violent” death of a man outside a shopping centre in Brisbane.

A member of the public called officers to the centre on Trevally Crescent in Manly West shortly about 2.17am today.

A man in his 40s was found with critical injuries and was declared dead shortly later.

Detective Inspector Wayne Francis told the media this afternoon that the man appeared to have suffered a “brutal and violent” attack.

“At this stage of investigation, whilst in these early stages, we believe that the victim was on foot prior to the attack,” he said.

A 45-year-old man was taken into custody in relation to other matters near the scene and is assisting police with inquiries.

Francis said police are working to determine whether the two men knew each other.

“We are actively investigating the connection between his detention and the [alleged] murder case,” he mentioned.

Numerous police officers are present in Manly West today, seeking assistance from the public for any CCTV or dashcam recordings from the vicinity, occurring between 12am and 3am today.

This includes vision of anyone walking along Trevally Crescent, Radford Road and Miles Crescent.

“Whilst you might not think it shows anything, it could be very compelling for us,” Francis said.

Police are trying to contact the man’s family as investigations continue.
