Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl 60 halftime show, Apple Music announced during halftime of “Sunday Night Football.”

Bad Bunny, whose birth name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, was the third-most-listened-to artist on Spotify in 2024, as reported by the music streaming service. Known worldwide as a global icon, Bad Bunny has earned the title of the “King of Latin Trap” for his Spanish-language rap music.

“What I’m feeling transcends myself. It’s for those who paved the way before me, running countless yards to allow me to come in and score a touchdown,” Bad Bunny expressed in a statement.

He added: “This is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”

Bad Bunny’s latest album, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” (translated as “I Should Have Taken More Photos”), entered the Billboard 200 at No. 2 upon its release in January. It also secured the top spot on the U.S. streaming chart.

This year, Bad Bunny held 30 performances during a three-month residency in San Juan, significantly contributing to tourism in Puerto Rico during the island’s hurricane season.

“What Benito has accomplished and continues to accomplish for Puerto Rico is deeply inspiring,” stated Roc Nation CEO Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter. “We are proud to present him on the world’s largest stage.”

Bad Bunny has also branched out of music in recent years.

In 2021, he participated in WWE’s WrestleMania, and in 2023, he took on the role of host for “Saturday Night Live.” Additionally, he played a supporting role this year in the movie “Caught Stealing.”

Super Bowl 60 will take place Feb. 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, home of the San Francisco 49ers. The game will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock.

The most recent Super Bowl halftime show was headlined by Kendrick Lamar, who was the first rapper to be the solo headliner. Lamar’s performance drew 133.5 million viewers, making it the most-watched halftime show of all time.
