A customer was shot during a weekend incident at Que Padre Mexican spot, with JSO actively investigating the case.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Following a weekend incident where a regular customer was shot, a Jacksonville restaurant owner is voicing her concerns.
The shooting unfolded Saturday evening at Que Padre on University Boulevard. According to Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, a man in his 50s was inside the establishment when a person clad in black fired into the building, striking him in the back. The shooter then escaped on a bicycle.
Owner Nely Osorio says Que Padre has been a part of Jacksonville’s Southside for the past two years.
“I’m really concerned, I’m really scared what happened Sunday morning at my restaurant,” said Osorio.
She says the victim wasn’t just a regular — he was a familiar face who came in for karaoke nights and had been a customer since day one.
“I don’t know what’s happening to our nation; people have lost care for others’ lives. It’s a challenging time for me as a business owner. I have several businesses in Jacksonville, and this is unprecedented,” Osorio expressed.
Footage obtained by First Coast News captures employees calling for assistance following the shooting. Another clip depicts officers tending to the injured man outside the venue. He was swiftly transported to the hospital and is anticipated to make a full recovery.
“I feel unsafe for my kids, for my customers,” said Osorio.
As a result of the incident, Osorio has opted to reduce Que Padre’s operating hours and aims to install additional security cameras. She also hopes the authorities will apprehend the suspect promptly.
“I don’t want this type of thing to happen again,” said Osorio.
JSO reports that the investigation is still active and considers this to be an isolated case. They encourage anyone with information to contact them directly or provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
