Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Devan Terrell Green, 35, was taken into custody yesterday after he allegedly assaulted and threatened officers attempting to remove him from GRACE Marketplace.

At approximately 11:43 a.m. on September 29, officers from the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) were called to GRACE Marketplace, located at 3055 NE 28th Drive. An officer had previously asked Green to leave the premises about 45 minutes before the incident.

The same officer noticed Green had returned and asked him to approach the patrol vehicle. Green reportedly ignored the request and headed towards the GRACE Marketplace parking lot. Two officers then tried to arrest him, during which Green allegedly hit one officer in the face. Fortunately, no visible injuries were reported.

Green then reportedly faced the second officer, adopting a combat-ready stance with raised fists and attempted to hit him, but failed. The officers managed to detain Green successfully.

A witness allegedly stated that she observed from her parked car and saw Green strike both officers.

Green, whose address is recorded as GRACE Marketplace, faces charges of battery against an officer, assault, and trespassing following a prior warning. His criminal record includes two non-violent felony convictions and four non-violent misdemeanor convictions. Earlier in April 2023, he was detained for attempting to cash a fraudulent check. He entered a plea of no contest, leading to withheld adjudication and a two-year probation sentence. After being arrested twice for probation violations, he served five months in jail. Additionally, he was jailed for trespassing and resisting an officer in 2023 and was sentenced to two days in detention with credits for time already served. In July 2025, Green faced arrest for physically confronting a Walmart Loss Prevention Officer and possessing another person’s ID, resulting in a 37-day jail sentence, also credited for time served.

Judge Jonathan Ramsey set bail at $32,500 on the new charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
