Less Daylight, Earlier Sunsets

One of the most apparent transitions this month is the diminishing daylight hours. Tonight, the sun will set at 7:08 p.m., but in just two weeks, darkness will already set in by this time. By Halloween’s end of the month, the sun will set as early as 6:34 p.m.

You’ll notice shifts in sunrise times, too. This morning, sunrise was at 7:18 a.m., but come October 31, it’ll be at 7:40 a.m. Altogether, we lose around 56 minutes of daylight during the month.

Cooler Weather on the Way

October also brings the much-anticipated fall weather. At the start of the month, average high temperatures hover in the low 80s, with lows in the mid 60s. By Halloween, these adjust to average highs in the mid 70s and lows in the low 50s.

This suggests we might continue experiencing more warm days especially early on. As for precipitation, the forecast indicates equal chances of above or below average rain, so we might end up with typical October rainfall totals.
