() The federal government has halted $18 billion earmarked for infrastructure projects in New York City.

Russell Vought, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, announced on X that funding for the Hudson Tunnel and Second Ave Subway projects was paused due to worries about policies deemed “unconstitutional.”

Specifically, Vought posted that there were concerns that funds were going toward diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

It is not clear whether the decision to halt funds now is related to the government shutdown.

The Hudson Tunnel initiative involves constructing a new tunnel for passenger trains under the Hudson River as well as renovating the current tunnel. Once completed, the project will feature four tracks beneath the river.

The Second Ave Subway project would extend the Q line into Harlem and East Harlem.

Vought said the Department of Transportation would provide more details soon.
