Firefighters battling house fire in Pesotum

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Springfield Fire Department is investigating after a home caught fire overnight.

The incident occurred at 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning in the vicinity of North Grand Avenue and 10th Street. Springfield’s Assistant Fire Chief, Julie Plunk, stated that firefighters discovered the fire began on the back porch and had spread to the second floor’s interior.

According to Plunk, the house was empty, and there were no injuries reported. Firefighters remained at the location for approximately two hours to extinguish the fire and conducted overhaul operations to confirm it was fully put out.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damages.

The Fire Safety Division is investigating the fire to look for a cause.
