SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The Savannah Bananas are making strides and Thursday ushered in their newest venture: the Banana Ball Tour Championship.
Seeded according to their performance in the 2025 season, the four national barnstorming teams will compete in a best-of-three semifinal series from Oct. 2-5, culminating in the championship final on Oct. 11.
“Banana Ball has arrived and it’s expanding; everyone has been asking if it’s competitive, and this weekend will provide the answer,” remarked Bananas head coach Tyler Gillum. “This marks our inaugural Banana Ball playoff tournament format. It’s a trial as we look towards 2026. The players are enthusiastic and ready. All four teams are primed for action. Fans are going to love it.”
The introduction of this playoff format is in preparation for the upcoming Banana Ball Championship League launching next year, which will include the four 2025 teams plus two new expansion teams.
“It’s going to be an electrifying schedule for all involved,” stated Gillum. “We’re going to attract a lot of people to witness these games.”
The schedule and new team names are slated to be revealed at the 2026 Banana Ball City Selection Show on Oct. 9.
Although the team has evolved from its Coastal Plains League origins, Gillum mentioned that they still cherish playing where it all began.
“Savannah’s our home,” he said. “We love it here. The fans have supported us since 2016 here, this is home base. We love playing here and it’s really [a] home field advantage for the Bananas.”
