Hulk Hogan’s family exploring medical malpractice lawsuit, court docs indicate

The family of Hulk Hogan is contemplating filing a medical malpractice lawsuit against the doctors who treated the wrestling icon prior to his unforeseen death, as indicated by recent court filings.

Hogan’s spouse, Sky Daily, along with his son, Nick Bollea, submitted a request on Tuesday in Pinellas County, Florida, to extend the statute of limitations by 90 days. This extension is for an investigation into possible medical malpractice involving the 71-year-old wrestling star, as reported by Fox 13 News.

The investigation concerns medical professionals and healthcare providers at Morton Plant Hospital, where Hogan was declared deceased on July 24, and at Tampa General Hospital, according to the news source.

Hogan’s demise at his Clearwater residence was initially categorized as a “natural” heart attack, but police stated in late August that the matter is still under investigation, as per reports from WFLA.

The renowned wrestler was known to have an irregular heartbeat and suffered from chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), a type of cancer that impacts white blood cells, according to officials.

However, his wife first said in August that they were looking into a malpractice suit — likely regarding a botched neck operation he had in May.

Daily conveyed to TMZ Sports that Hogan’s phrenic nerve, which is crucial for controlling the diaphragm and breathing functions, had been “compromised” during a medical procedure.

“We are investigating for possible malpractice. If you have shortness of breath for a long time, that makes you very sick,” Sky Daily told the Daily Mail at the time. “It’s not something that’s an alarming (sudden) cause of death. It’s something that wears on you, makes you weak.”

The Clearwater Police Department confirmed in August that the “unique nature of this case has required us to interview multiple witnesses and seek medical records from a variety of providers, and our detectives continue to do that.”

Nobody has been formally accused of any wrongdoing in Hogan’s death.
