BRADENTON, Fla. (SNN) — Manatee County is keen for its residents to enjoy the Florida sunshine, and to make this a reality, officials are pouring millions of dollars into local amenities.

The county has long been developing ball fields, trails, and playgrounds. However, with rapid population growth, local leaders believe it is time for their largest investment yet. An allocation of more than $24 million is planned over the next five years to revitalize and expand the park system.

“We’re fortunate to have designated funds through our impact fees and millage, which enable us to reinvest in the community,” said Molly White, who is the Director of Sports & Leisure Services. “This allows us to advocate for physical activity, enhance well-being, and conserve green spaces.”

A prime example is Tom Bennett Park, a 200-acre space that has recently enhanced its offerings with additions like a splash pad and a communication board, which improve accessibility.

“Tom Bennett Park is a 200-acre sanctuary that has incorporated new facilities, from the splash pad to a communication board, expanding accessibility for people of all ages and abilities,” White noted.

In addition to upgrading current parks, county officials are planning four entirely new parks, which are currently in the design stage and will be located from West Bradenton to Lakewood Ranch.

Multiple projects are already underway, and leaders expect most of the work to be finished within the next two years.
