Fox Sports analyst and ex-NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was injured in a stabbing incident in downtown Indianapolis early Saturday morning during a confrontation, cited by both the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Fox Sports.

In response to an NBC News inquiry regarding Sanchez’s stabbing, the police referred to a statement on X, mentioning a “physical disturbance” around 12:30 a.m. Subsequently, a “man with apparent stab wounds” was hospitalized and remains in stable condition.

The circumstances that led to the stabbing are not clear at this time.

Fox Sports also confirmed that Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and that he is in stable condition at a hospital.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time,” stated Fox Sports.

Officers responded to an area near Senate Avenue and West Washington Street at around 12:30 a.m. due to a physical disturbance, police said.

The IMPD disclosed that the event involved “two adult males,” with one suffering lacerations and the other enduring stab-related injuries. The statement did not reveal the identities of the men involved and noted, “Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between the two men and not a random act of violence.”

Police said that both men involved in the incident were not local residents and have received medical treatment following the assault.

An agent for Sanchez declined to comment on the incident.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said, adding that detectives have seen video footage of it.

“The case will be presented to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for a charging decision,” police said.

Sanchez, originally from California, played most of his NFL career with the New York Jets after being drafted in 2009. After four seasons with the Jets, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles and later played for the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, and Chicago Bears before retiring in 2019.

Before his time in the NFL, the former athlete had a successful college football career at the University of Southern California.

Sanchez joined ESPN as a sports analyst following his retirement from the NFL. He joined Fox Sports in 2021.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
