Mark Sanchez has been arrested in the hospital after allegedly being stabbed in the chest, Indianapolis police have announced.

Sanchez, 38, was urgently taken to the hospital with serious injuries on Saturday morning after reportedly being involved in a stabbing incident during a confrontation with a food delivery driver around 12:30 am. Fox Sports later announced that Sanchez was in stable condition.

However, allegations soon surfaced suggesting that the delivery driver had acted in self-defense, leading Indianapolis police to arrest Sanchez on charges of battery resulting in injury, illegal entry of a vehicle, and public intoxication.

Cops have said that Sanchez is still in the hospital and has not yet been booked into jail. They stressed that

The former Jets quarterback was in Indianapolis to provide commentary for Fox on Sunday’s NFL game between the Colts and Raiders. The Daily Mail has reached out to the network for a statement.

Initially, police reported that one of the individuals involved – now identified as Sanchez – sustained injuries that were ‘consistent with’ being stabbed, while the other person was also hospitalized with significant injuries.

According to a police report, FOX59 anchor Angela Ganote reported that the alleged victim told authorities he was delivering food when the Fox Sports commentator instructed him to relocate his vehicle, as it was parked in an unauthorized spot.

Sanchez is accused of threatening, following and attacking the man, who tried to pepper spray him unsuccessfully. He claimed it was at that time that he defended himself with a knife.

Officers noted that the alleged victim had a significant injury to his face, Ganote added.

The incident is said to have happened near Loughmiller’s Pub & Eatery.

Fox Sports PR said Saturday in a statement: ‘Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition. We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support.

‘Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.’

TMZ’s Michael J. Babcock also reported that Sanchez had no recollection of what happened during the incident, according to someone who spoke with the ex-passer this morning.

Babcock added that Sanchez was ‘very out of it’ during that conversation due to being sedated.

Following news of his arrest, Front Office Sports’ Michael McCarthy reported that Sanchez would be replaced on the Colts-Raiders broadcast by Brady Quinn.

Sanchez is married to American actress Perry Mattfeld, and the couple have two children together after Perry gave birth to twins in March.

Sanchez received a slew of well-wishes following the news of his alleged stabbing.

His former team, the Jets said: ‘Sending our thoughts and love to MarkSanchez and his family. Hoping for a speedy recovery, 6.

Former NFL linebacker and ex-Fox star Emmanuel Acho commented: ‘Trying not to freak out, but praying fervently for Mark’s healing. Praying for his wife Perry’s peace in the midst of this chaos, and praying for his whole family. Mark is one of the greatest men you’ll ever know. Love you’.

And ESPN’s Field Yates said: ‘Incredibly scary situation. Hoping for the best for Mark Sanchez.’
