Mac Jones finished Thursday night with one of the most impressive QB performances of the year, but his night didn’t begin so auspiciously.
Before departing the team hotel for Thursday night’s important division game against the Rams in Los Angeles, Jones noticed a dead body floating in the water near the team’s hotel in Marina del Rey, California.
“That morning at the team hotel in Marina del Rey, Jones shared with teammates that while he was on his balcony, he observed a floating dead body in the water,” reported The Athletic. “A call was made to the police. As the 49ers boarded their buses for the stadium, they saw investigators and even a coroner’s van arrive at the marina.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
If nothing else, this incident showed that Jones isn’t highly superstitious. Despite the unsettling sight, Jones maintained his concentration and led the 49ers to an exciting overtime victory over the Rams, with a performance including 33 completions on 49 attempts for 342 yards and two touchdowns.
San Francisco is now 4-1 on the year and 3-0 in the division. Next up, the 49ers will face the Falcons on Sunday Night Football, October 12.
