A Texas man who assaulted his ex-girlfriend twice in one day has been released from jail on a $58,500 bond.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, a woman contacted them around 4 a.m. on Friday, reporting an assault by her ex-boyfriend, 32-year-old John Anthony Etienne. He left the area before deputies could reach the location.
Later that morning, after deputies apparently hadn’t found him, they were called back to the victim’s residence as Etienne returned and attacked her again. This time, her injuries were severe enough that she needed hospital care.
And this time, deputies found Etienne and took him into custody “without incident.”
He was jailed on several charges, including unlawful restraint, assaulting a family member by impeding breath, continuous assault on a family member, and retaliation.
“The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting victims of family violence and ensuring offenders are held accountable,” stated the sheriff’s office.
Court records indicate Etienne was arrested on similar charges in 2019, though it’s unclear if the same woman was the victim, Law&Crime reported. Those charges were dismissed.
Investigators provided no further details, including any possible conditions for Etienne’s release.
