AUGUSTA, Ga. () – The Salvation Army of Augusta is reaching out to the community to address a critical need at its Center of Hope soup kitchen, which provides nearly 200 meals daily to those experiencing homelessness or financial difficulties.

This soup kitchen, supported by a small team and volunteers, currently faces a staffing shortage, requiring immediate volunteer support. Volunteers are encouraged to join daily shifts from 3:30–6:30 p.m., helping with meal preparation, serving, and clean-up.

“Each meal at the Center of Hope offers more than food—it delivers comfort and stability to those facing uncertainty. We need the community’s assistance to sustain this support,” stated Olga Gonzalez, Social Services Director for The Salvation Army of Augusta.

Besides volunteers, the Center of Hope is also in need of ready-to-serve meal donations to maintain consistent, nutritious food access for clients and community members. The shelter serves dinner to around 70 clients staying on-site, along with 40 to-go meals for needy neighbors. Breakfast is provided daily for shelter residents.

Community members, businesses, churches, and civic organizations are encouraged to volunteer or organize group service projects. Shifts are open every day, requiring no prior experience.
