Urbana Police Chief Larry Boone informed a WCIA reporter at the location that one individual was injured and taken to the hospital. He assured that there is currently no threat to public safety.

Katherine Tellez, spokesperson for the Urbana School District, reported that the 6th grade center, middle school, and high school were advised to go into lockdown by law enforcement. She mentioned that all students and staff stayed inside and no visitors were permitted to enter the buildings.

As of around 2:15 p.m., the schools were given the all clear to lift the lockdown.

WCIA has contacted the Urbana Police Department for further details about the situation and is actively gathering more information. A reporter at the site observed at least seven police cars in the vicinity of Washington and Vine.
