Alsip police shooting kills person with replica gun who had made threats about officers along Cicero Avenue: officials

ALSIP, Ill. (WLS) — A police officer in the southern suburbs shot and killed a person on Monday night who was wielding a replica gun and had issued threats against officers, according to the police.

Officers from Alsip responded around 10 p.m. to a location near 124th Street and South Cicero Avenue after receiving reports from a female 911 caller claiming an active shooter was pursuing her.

The caller made additional 911 calls to the Alsip police, claiming she was armed, had killed an officer, and that she intended to kill another officer, police revealed.

Police tracked the caller’s phone to Burr Oak Cemetery, located on the east side of the 12400-block of South Cicero Avenue.

Officers found a female suspect there, who scaled a fence and crossed Cicero Avenue, police said.

Police chased her and told her to stop.

She eventually turned and pointed “a firearm” at officers, police said.

An officer then shot her.

Police began life-saving measures and Alsip fire crews did, as well.

She was taken to a local hospital, where she died.

Police did not immediately provide any additional information about the person killed.

A replica Colt firearm was recovered on the scene, police said.

Police said this was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public.

The Alsip Police Department has requested the assistance of Illinois State Police, Public Integrity Unit, to investigate.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Alsip police or Illinois State Police.
