Howard Rubin, a former Wall Street financier, was arrested by federal authorities at his Fairfield, Connecticut residence for orchestrating a sex-trafficking scheme in Manhattan over the past ten years.
Assisted by Jennifer Powers, his aide, Rubin, known as “Howie,” is alleged to have enticed women into BDSM sex sessions with the promise of cash, then surpassed their permitted boundaries, subjecting them to torture and sexual assault.
Rubin reportedly attracted individuals to these BDSM encounters, initially held at upscale Manhattan hotels, before transitioning them to his $18,000-a-month penthouse that featured a soundproof “sex dungeon.”
The victims were restrained, either on a bed or cross-like structure, and subjected to physical abuse and electric shocks. The cries of those not gagged were ignored, and the torture reportedly continued until some victims lost consciousness. Allegedly, Rubin compensated the women with several thousand dollars afterward, sometimes including payments for medical issues like a displaced breast implant.
The indictment lists 10 Jane Does as victims, but prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York believe there are many more and are seeking public tips. Rubin faces 2 charges of sex trafficking, 6 charges related to transporting women for prostitution, along with bank fraud.
During the 1980s, Howard Rubin became famous on Wall Street as a bond trader at Salomon Brothers and played a significant role in the collateralized mortgage obligation market, as highlighted in Michael Lewis’ 1989 book “Liar’s Poker.” He later held high-ranking positions at major firms including Merrill Lynch, Bear Stearns, and Soros Fund Management.
Rubin’s successful life doesn’t stop him from getting married to fellow financier, Mary Henry. After three children and 36 years of marriage, Henry divorces her husband when he is accused of sexual violence in a civil suit.
Rubin tasked Jennifer Powers, his “personal assistant,” with recruiting victims. Powers is arrested at her home in a Dallas-Fort Worth suburb, accused of running the “day-to-day” operations of Rubin’s sex-trafficking scheme and being paid handsomely.
Powers arranged the victims’ travel and coerced them into signing NDAs. This evil empire these two created by victimizing so many is crumbling, and more victims are expected to speak out.
