A video shows Iryna getting on the train, taking a seat, and looking at her phone.
The footage displays DeCarlos Brown Jr. with a focus on his hands, while much of Iryna’s face is obscured by her hat. Brown is observed opening and extending a knife in preparation to confront and stab Iryna.
The video further depicts Brown moving along the train aisle, leaving a trail of blood droplets on the floor. A fellow passenger notices the blood and carefully avoids it. Brown is dressed in an orange hoodie.
Shortly after reportedly stabbing Iryna, Brown appears on video casually strolling along the train station platform. Initially, he was in a hoodie on the train, but he is now seen in a black t-shirt, with the blood-stained hoodie draped over his hands.
Following the tragic and violent death of Iryna Zarutska, Governor Josh Stein of North Carolina has enacted “Iryna’s Law,” aiming to tighten regulations for criminal bail procedures and to eliminate cashless bail for certain violent offenses and repeat offenders.
