URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — An Urbana man accused of shooting a woman and sending her to the hospital appeared in court on Wednesday for his arraignment.

Noah Allen, a 21-year-old, is charged with shooting his girlfriend of the same age. The incident took place just before 2 p.m. on Tuesday, directly across from Urbana Middle School.

Allen faces three charges, including attempted first-degree murder, which could result in a maximum sentence of 55 years. Additionally, he is charged with aggravated battery involving a firearm and illegal possession of a firearm due to his status as a repeat offender.

This is not Allen’s first encounter with legal trouble. In March 2023, he admitted guilt to a burglary charge. Court documents reveal he currently has an active order prohibiting him from stalking or contacting certain individuals.

Champaign County State’s Attorney, Julia Reitz, also shared more details of the case from Tuesday.

According to statements, the victim’s sister recounted using pepper spray on Allen before disarming him after the shooting occurred. Reitz mentioned that officers discovered Allen nearby, bearing signs of alcohol consumption and covered in blood. Before undergoing surgery, the victim informed police of an argument spurred by Allen’s intoxication. She stated he attempted to force her into a vehicle and threatened her with a gun. It wasn’t the first instance of him menacing her with a firearm, she added.

Allen will stay in jail until they decide to keep him there or release him at his detention hearing Thursday morning.
