BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — A Bristol, Virginia, woman was charged in connection with an ongoing child abuse investigation on Thursday.

Jameeka Starks, 33, was charged with child abuse and neglect as well as strangulation. A statement from the Bristol, Virginia, Police Department noted that the investigation pertained to Starks’ 13-year-old child.

Starks was transported to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority and is being held without bond, the release said.

“The charges brought in this case underscore the vital need for specialized training and resources.
