JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Johnson City commissioners have a significant task ahead as they choose a replacement for the vacant seat following the resignation of former Mayor John Hunter, with 19 locals having expressed their interest by submitting letters by the noon deadline on Friday.

The city has made these letters and several candidates’ resumes available on a dedicated webpage on their official website. The appointee will serve until the elections in November 2026, which is when Hunter and commissioner Jenny Brock were due for reelection.

The remaining four commissioners — Mayor Greg Cox, Jenny Brock, Todd Fowler, and Joe Wise — have a brief period to evaluate the applications and present the names of two finalists each by 9 a.m. on Monday. The public can attend the interviews of these finalists at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, and the commission will appoint the new commissioner in their meeting on Thursday, Oct. 16.

This setup allows for as few as two candidates to be interviewed, should all commissioners select the same two names, or up to eight candidates if there are no overlaps in their selections.

The process required candidates to outline in their letters of interest how they plan to tackle issues Johnson City faces, using the city’s 2025 strategic plan as their framework. A glance at these letters indicates a diverse array of experiences and viewpoints among the candidates. The letters can be easily accessed by using the dropdown arrows for each one on the website.

The candidates, 12 men and seven women, include:

  • David Adams
  • Tembra Aldridge
  • Sanjay Bakshi
  • Sylvain Bruni
  • Jean Darling
  • Robert Davis
  • Whitney Goetz
  • Stephen Hallman
  • Tricia Korade
  • Eric Latham
  • Michael McQueen
  • Chris Meyer
  • Jo Munoz
  • Ashley Newton
  • Michael Rose
  • Allyson Spencer
  • James Stables
  • Seth Thomas
  • Bo Westmoreland

This is a developing story.
