A South Carolina woman has been accused of murdering her father, whose remains were discovered at his residence after being missing since June.
According to neighbors, James Wheeler, 78, had only just relocated to the Edgefield County house that his daughter, Monica Lee Wheeler-Walter, 57, had occupied for many years, even though the house was registered in Wheeler’s name, as reported by WRDW.
The reason police did not initially investigate the property when Wheeler was declared missing is unclear. However, authorities believe his body has been there since then. Initially, family cooperation was present, but significant developments were only made in the last three weeks.
Wheeler-Walton faces charges of murder and interfering with human remains. Officials have indicated that further arrests and charges could be forthcoming.
Neighbors reported that Wheeler had only recently settled on the property, with his camper stationed on the lawn. They noted that the camper had been listed for sale in recent weeks.
