'No more football tonight' Urbana vs Richwoods football game ends after fight breaks out

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) – Urbana’s football game on Friday was unable to be played in full.

The Tigers were hosting Peoria-Richwoods on Friday, Oct. 10. The game was tied at 14-14 just before halftime when a fight broke out on a kickoff.

The fight involved multiple players from both teams, including some who entered the field of play from the sideline to engage.

After several flags were thrown, the officials made an announcement.

One referee announced that multiple players from Richwoods were ejected. As for Urbana:

“According to the rules, players who leave the bench to engage in a fight are automatically dismissed,” announced the official over the loudspeaker. “A significant number of Urbana players left the bench to join the fight, resulting in their ejection. Consequently, Urbana doesn’t have enough players to continue the game. The game is thus suspended and will be reported to the IHSA.”

A game official informed WCIA that no immediate decision is made regarding the game’s result at the scene. The officiating team will submit a comprehensive report to the IHSA, who will then determine the final outcome of the match.

Urbana entered Friday night’s contest with an 0-6 record on the year. Richwoods was 1-5.
