BUCHANAN COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — A significant milestone was marked as officials celebrated the inauguration of a nearly three-mile segment of Corridor Q, which is part of the Coalfields Expressway, in Buchanan County on Friday.
This newly unveiled portion, identified as Popular Creek Phase A, links the Southern Gap redevelopment area with Route 604 (Poplar Creek Road). With this section completed, only 2.07 miles of Corridor Q remain unfinished in Virginia.
The final segment is Poplar Creek Phase B, which is scheduled to open in late 2027.
“The inauguration of Poplar Creek Phase A brings us a step nearer to the full realization of Corridor Q in Virginia,” expressed Virginia Secretary of Transportation W. Sheppard Miller III. “This roadway, long in development, will forge stronger ties between Virginia and Kentucky, bolster future economic growth, and improve the quality of life for the residents of this picturesque area within the Commonwealth.”
More information about the Coalfields Expressway can be found on the Virginia Department of Transportation’s website.
