Plane crash under investigation in Washington Co., minor injuries reported

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. () – Friday night at approximately 9:25 p.m., Washington County 911 received a call reporting a possible plane crash.

One of the individuals onboard contacted dispatch and stated that their aircraft had gone down in a wooded area near Highway 68 and Highway 540.

Deputies, firefighters, and EMS personnel immediately responded to the area.

Employing drones along with coordinated ground efforts between deputies and firefighters, the two occupants were found in a wooded area behind the Limestone Plant on Short 68.

Both individuals were assessed by EMS and determined to have sustained only minor injuries. The FAA has been informed and will be conducting the investigation into the incident.

I wish to commend everyone involved, from our 911 dispatchers to the deputies, firefighters, EMS personnel, and community members who participated in the search and rescue. Teamwork is crucial in situations like this, and last night clearly demonstrated what can be achieved when we collaborate.
