Diane Keaton is being remembered by her Hollywood friends and colleagues after her shock death on Saturday at age 79.

Bette Midler was among the first to pay tribute to the late actress, with whom she starred in the 1996 comedy-drama The First Wives Club.

Sharing photos on Instagram, 79-year-old Midler wrote, ‘The brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary Diane Keaton has died.

‘I can’t express how deeply sad this makes me. She was incredibly funny and completely sincere, lacking any competitiveness you’d expect from a major star. What you saw was truly who she was… oh, la, lala!’

Piers Morgan also paid his respects via the social media app X, formerly Twitter.

The 60-year-old broadcaster shared, ‘RIP Diane Keaton, 79. Oscar winner from Annie Hall, and phenomenal in The Godfather and Father of the Bride. One of Hollywood’s finest actresses and a lovely person. Heartbreaking news.’

Film director Joey Kuhn expressed his heartbreak over the news as well.

Taking to Instagram, he shared an excerpt from Keaton’s performance of Seems Like Old Times from a scene in 1977’s Annie Hall.

He captioned, ‘Rest in Peace to the incomparable Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton (1946-2025).’

The Those People filmmaker added via Instagram Stories, ‘This one hurts,’ with a broken heart emoji.

Amy Sedaris posted an Annie Hall excerpt as well, along with the note, ‘Heartbreaking. A true original. Artist. Beautiful. Spirit in the sky.’

Paul Feig posted on X: ‘I felt privileged to call Diane Keaton a friend. She was deeply kind and creative, and a Hollywood icon as well. Her passing is far too soon. We will miss you, Diane.’

Actress Elizabeth Banks wrote on Instagram, ‘She was beloved in her industry. Every one of us idolizes her.

‘Her impact on culture, fashion, art, and women’s roles can’t be overstated. She was a joy to know. I’m grateful to have had a career that allowed me to meet her and be in her presence.’
