Fractured Media Award Nominations: Supporting Crime, Opposing Health, and Mourning a Dog Before Charlie

It’s time again to highlight some of the year’s most notorious examples of dubious reporting! In celebrating the world of sloppy journalism, lazy reporting, and media mishaps that rightly deserve ridicule, we present our nominations for the end-of-year awards. Paying homage to the past glory days of bold investigative reporting and tireless newsgathering, we’ve established The Golden Remington Awards. This trophy is a tribute to a bygone era when dedicated journalists toiled away to bring their reports to life on those iconic, old-fashioned typewriters.

Regularly, we compile some of the most fractured examples of journalism, nominating them for the un-coveted dishonor of “winning” our un-distinguished Remmy Award. At the end of the year, we recognize the greats by gathering examples in a number of categories and judiciously choosing the deserving performances.

Here are the latest nominees for The Remmys.

Distinguished National Reporting

In the aftermath of the Charlie Kirk assassination, there was this bizarre approach made by national correspondent Matt Gutman. He looked at the comments and notes made by Kirk’s killer and saw a kinder, softer murderer.

His attempt at framing it as a love story was rather pathetic.

ABC’s Matt Gutman doubled down, ten minutes later after this on ABC News Live: “It’s heartbreaking on so many levels, Kyra. Obviously, Charlie Kirk was murdered brutally in front of a crowd of thousands…[O]n the other hand, there is this duality of a very a portrait of a very human person, a very human experience from this entire family…the kid who had got a 34 out of 36 on the ACT, who had a 4.0…I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a press conference in which we’ve read text messages that are A, so fulsome, so robust, so apparently, allegedly self-incriminating and yet, on the other hand, so touching — right — with the suspect reaching out to his roommate, who was allegedly his boyfriend, who we understand, you know, identified as male at birth, now identifies as female. And the terminology he used, he was trying to protect him. He kept calling him ‘my love.’ ‘My reason for doing this is to protect you,’ you know, but also asking him to delete the messages and not speak to law enforcement. So there’s this, this heartbreaking duality that we’re seeing very tragically playing out here.”

Distinguished Cultural Commentary

There is a longstanding practice where older generations look down on the younger set as being softer than themselves. There is some validity to this, when you see this report that declares there are a growing number of members of Generation Z who have a deep emotional issue with using public lavatories. More than an isolated issue, Vice tells us that over 80 percent of this generation fosters this issue, with 12 percent who consider quitting their jobs rather than endure the hardship of visiting a restroom.

We may be doomed.

Distinguished Breaking News

In an attempt to counter President Trump wanting to address the crime problem in Chicago, Brianna Keilar managed to claim there was no need for him to do so, all while delivering statistics showing there is a need. In giving the shooting statistics from the Labor Day weekend, Keilar tried to say that sure, this was a bloody weekend, but overall “crime” statistics were down in the city.

This was a dodge on her part, as she was referencing the totality of crime stats, but Chicago remains the only city with over 400 gun homicides annually.

Distinguished Investigative Reporting

There has been plenty of outrage in the media over President Trump promoting social media posts portraying House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries with a sombrero on his head and a cartoonishly drawn mustache.

ABC News was on the case to inform its audience that the clearly animated additions were, in fact, AI-generated imagery.

Distinguished Explanatory Reporting

While there was no shortage of offensive reporting in the wake of the Charlie Kirk shooting, David Frum arrived with some stunted pontificating on what it all means. Dave, in his truncated wisdom, regarded the killing of Charlie Kirk as an opportunity for President Trump to use the aftermath as a reason to manipulate the upcoming midterm elections.

Do not ask us to explain his logic behind this theory, because as far as we could ascertain, there was no logic involved.

The Jenn Rubin Medal of Dishonor for Excellence in Self-Contradiction

In a gleaming example of a press member reflexively opposing President Trump, D.C. resident Parker declared boldly that there was no need for anti-crime actions taken in her city. This claim was effectively contradicted – by Parker herself.

She had posted just a couple of months earlier how her family had endured a number of thefts at their residence in D.C.

The Gold Lame’ Corduroy Pillow for Headline Writing (Sponsored by The New York Post)

Yes, they purposefully did this for the sake of interest and generating clicks, but you need to recognize when they play a good game.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
