Although IMDb’s functionality has seen some challenges in recent years, its list of the top 250 television series of all time remains strong. This list spans decades and is an excellent guide for anyone wanting to explore the best TV has to offer. One of its strengths is its dynamic nature—new series are regularly added. In 2025, four new shows joined the ranks.

Among these new additions are “When Life Gives You Tangerines,” a Netflix K-drama, and “Takopi’s Original Sin,” a sci-fi anime available on Crunchyroll. The other two shows that joined have a notable feature in common: a high body count. Both “The Pitt” and “Dexter: Resurrection” are not for the faint-hearted due to their frequent graphic scenes. Those uncomfortable with explicit content should watch with caution.

The Pitt shows the bloody side of the ER

Television has always had its share of hospital dramas, but “The Pitt” offers a fresh take. Unlike the typical format where each episode covers a different day, this series spans a single shift in its first season. It features Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, who works in a struggling Pittsburgh emergency room.

During a particularly challenging shift, marked by the anniversary of his mentor’s death and a mass casualty event, Dr. Robby faces chaos in the ER. “The Pitt” airs on HBO, giving it the freedom to depict the harsh realities of an emergency room uncensored, showing scenes that network TV would usually avoid.

Dexter: Resurrection pulls no punches

“Dexter: Resurrection” follows the notorious serial killer Dexter Morgan, again played by Michael C. Hall. True to form, the series includes some intense and graphic scenes that even shocked dedicated fans. Though “Dexter” ended in 2013, viewers continue to be captivated by the character’s complex nature, leading to new series like “Dexter: New Blood,” “Dexter: Original Sin,” and now “Dexter: Resurrection.” Recaps are available for those who need a refresher before diving into the latest installment.

The newest addition to the Dexter saga picks up shortly after “Dexter: New Blood” ends. This time, Dexter focuses on locating his son, Harrison, in New York City. Despite changes in plot across the series, some elements remain constant: Dexter Morgan’s world is a fictional realm filled with moral complexities and creatively gruesome scenes. Audiences are drawn in by the intrigue and stay for the consistently unsettling ways in which villains meet their demise.
