"This is horrible": Owner of Willie's Bar & Grill speaks on shooting

The owner of Willie’s Bar & Grill on St. Helena Island, South Carolina, has shared his thoughts on the recent tragic shooting that occurred there.

“Whenever something like this happens, you can’t help but feel for those affected because it’s someone’s son or daughter that didn’t make it home,” said Willie Turral, who owns the bar and was present during the incident.

Many victims and witnesses fled to nearby places seeking refuge as gunfire erupted. The shooting left at least 20 people injured, with four critically hurt and taken to the hospital, while four others lost their lives at the scene.

Turral reflects on the event, calling it one of the darkest days experienced on St. Helena Island. He believes the shooting highlights a deeper issue connected to “hope and resources” within the community.

“I find it hard to believe that anyone would intentionally harm another person,” he expressed with dismay. “This is truly awful.”

Currently, no arrests have been made regarding the shooting. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating, and they urge anyone with information to reach out to Investigator Master Sergeant Duncan at 843-255-3418.
