Last week, in celebration of James Bond Day, Amazon unveiled new poster designs for the Bond movies. Fans quickly observed that the iconic Walther PPK pistol, closely associated with James Bond, was noticeably absent from the updated images. In some instances, it had been poorly removed using Photoshop. For example, in the posters for Dr. No and Goldeneye, Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan appeared to be awkwardly holding nothing. Additionally, Roger Moore’s appearance on the Live and Let Die cover seemed altered, and in A View to a Kill, his arms were oddly extended to obscure the gun.
The altered posters did not sit well with fans, leading to quite the stir. Some fans were shocked that Amazon would make such changes to a classic franchise, while others accused the company of pandering to modern sensibilities. Following the backlash, Amazon discreetly revised the thumbnails to feature stills from the movies. Observant fans pointed out that these updates also omitted any firearms. Notably, the still for Skyfall appears modified to remove a gun. As of now, Amazon has not provided a comment on the matter.
