Facebook is adding job listings, again

Meta, known for frequently adding new features to its platforms, is reintroducing a feature on Facebook: job postings. This idea is not entirely new, as Facebook first launched job postings in 2017 but discontinued them less than five years later. Now, the feature resumes with a focus on local, entry-level, service, and trade employment opportunities.

These job listings can be accessed through a tab in Facebook’s Marketplace section, and Meta also indicates that they may appear in relevant groups. Businesses have the option to post job listings on their pages. The job postings are restricted to users aged 18 and older and must comply with Facebook’s guidelines, which clearly prohibit adult services and drugs, as well as in-person childcare, interestingly enough. Despite this restriction, many neighborhoods use Facebook groups specifically for finding and hiring nannies.

Exploring some job listings in Seattle, it appears that this feature is taking off as a modern version of placing a “Help Wanted” sign at the entrance of a restaurant or business. This makes sense, considering that Facebook groups, alongside platforms like Nextdoor, facilitate many local connections. Personally, Facebook is my go-to source for information, especially when I want to understand why the local sheriff’s helicopter is hovering over the neighborhood on a Tuesday afternoon.
