A Kentucky teacher is facing charges after police say he sexually abused a 10-year-old child.
As stated in an arrest warrant obtained by LEX 10, Charles Hamilton is being charged with first-degree sexual abuse related to the alleged incident involving a student from Boonesborough Elementary School in Richmond.
The situation was revealed when the student, now 17, disclosed to their therapist that Hamilton sexually assaulted her during the 2017-2018 school year when she was in fifth grade.
The student reported that Hamilton followed her into the girls’ bathroom during a power outage and inappropriately touched her “through her clothing,” as per FOX 56, by cupping her thigh and touching her private area.
The student alleged that Hamilton entered the bathroom without consent. She further mentioned that she said “yes” to him once he was in the bathroom, as she believed she was in love with the teacher at the time and thought it was normal for people in love to act that way.
The student also said that Hamilton had been “treating her like she was an adult.”
“Madison County Schools was notified on Sept. 8, 2025, that the Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) had launched an investigation concerning Charles Hamilton,” the school district stated.
“On that same day, Mr. Hamilton was placed on leave pending the outcome of the DCBS investigation. Mr. Hamilton has continued to be on leave since Sept. 8 and has not resumed his teaching or coaching responsibilities.”
“The district will continue to cooperate fully with the investigation,” the school district announced in a statement.”
Hamilton, who’s also a middle school coach, subsequently turned himself in. He was booked into the Madison County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.
