DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A nonprofit which provides therapy — with the help of horses — in Decatur will unveil its new facility this week.

Jen Lang, Board President of Freedom Reins, said that after five years in the community, they’re moving to a location closer to the city.

“It’ll be easier to get to us, we’ll have more flexible hours, and more availability,” Lang said. “It’s all about being more accessible.”

On Friday at 4:30 p.m., the Decatur Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4505 Needle Rd. in Decatur to mark the opening of a new location. Due to limited parking, guests are advised to park at Life Foursquare Church at 2954 Ash St. A shuttle service will run to the barn every five to ten minutes from the church.

The event will also include a meet and greet with the therapy horses, free lesson giveaways and more.

Freedom Reins provides support for people of all abilities using horses. They focus on “Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies,” which, according to Lang, offer both physical and emotional advantages.

“The aim is to improve people’s lives. If you leave feeling slightly better, we’ve achieved our goal,” Lang expressed. “Horses offer therapeutic benefits for everyone, come and experience some happiness!”

Freedom Reins serves individuals with conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, ADHD, depression, anxiety, sensory processing disorder, and Down syndrome. However, Lang emphasized that anyone is welcome to join.
