Now, the company said it intends to invest $600 million into the plant to expand production of the Jeep Cherokee and Compass in 2027.

“Today’s decision by Stellantis marks a tremendous victory for Illinois workers, our economy, and the direction of U.S. manufacturing,” remarked Governor JB Pritzker. “Reviving the Belvidere plant and adding 3,300 well-paying positions highlights the expertise, devotion, and efficiency of Illinois’ workforce. Stellantis’ $613 million investment will facilitate two new vehicle lines, the Jeep Compass and Jeep Cherokee, emphasizing our effort to establish Illinois as a hub for next-generation automotive advances.”

“The commitment will anchor sustained economic growth, uplift local communities, and offer chances for workers and families who have often been marginalized. Collaborating closely with Stellantis and local groups such as the United Auto Workers (UAW), we have ensured this investment yields tangible benefits for Illinois, including solid jobs, vibrant communities, and an invigorated economy. Illinois is showing that by collaborating with industries and investing in our workforce, we can lead the country in innovation, economic prosperity, and excellent manufacturing opportunities.”

It’s expected to employ about 3,300 people.
