Florida bill would require minors to get parental consent for STD testing

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — A newly proposed bill in Florida, SB 166, aims to mandate parental consent for minors seeking treatment for specific sexually transmitted diseases. This legislation, introduced by Senator Erin Grall (R), seeks to expand the role of parents in their children’s health care decisions.

Under the provisions of SB 166, health care providers would be prohibited from offering minors information or services related to maternal health or contraception without obtaining approval from a parent or legal guardian. This restriction would apply even in situations where a physician believes that withholding such services could pose significant health risks to the minor.
