A dramatic police operation led to the arrest of a man accused of attempting to carjack four shoppers during a chaotic scene at a Bunnings parking lot in Victoria.

Just before these alleged carjacking attempts, the suspect reportedly drove a stolen vehicle dangerously close to a woman retrieving a pram from her car in the Bunnings parking area located on Princess Highway in Norlane, Geelong.

The incident unfolded earlier in the day when authorities identified a stolen grey Haval at the intersection of Dorcas and Moray streets in South Melbourne around 1:15 pm.

Upon noticing the police, the man and a woman allegedly sped away, prompting officers to pursue the vehicle along the Princes Freeway heading towards Norlane.

It’s claimed that they then veered into the Bunnings parking lot, nearly hitting a woman as she was unloading a pram from her car.

According to police, the man exited the stolen Haval and purportedly tried to commandeer four different cars during the incident.

No members of the public were physically injured.

Police arrested the man about 2.45pm.
