Exclusive: There are fears multiple takeaway orders in south-east Queensland have been contaminated with rat poison after five people showed up sick at different hospitals.

Queensland Health has launched an investigation following a series of hospital admissions in the Metro South area, notably at Logan and Princess Alexandra hospitals, over the past week.

Chief Health Officer Dr. Catherine McDougall issued an internal safety alert to staff, highlighting a concerning cluster of patients testing positive for rat poison.

Medical professionals are being advised to closely monitor individuals who exhibit unexplained bleeding symptoms.

Authorities suspect that these cases may be linked to consumption of tainted products from a fast food establishment in Logan.

In a statement to 9News, McDougall confirmed that efforts are underway to identify the source of the contamination.

Rat poison is known to reduce vitamin K levels in the body, impairing blood clotting and potentially leading to severe health issues.

All five patients who turned up sick at hospitals are receiving treatment and are expected to be okay.
