Two teenage boys have been charged after police foiled two attempted carjackings in Melbourne’s east overnight.

Late one evening on Seymour Street in Ringwood, an unsettling event unfolded as police report that two teenagers attempted to carjack two vehicles at around 11:15 p.m. The situation quickly escalated, but thanks to a vigilant witness who provided real-time updates, officers were able to intervene during the second carjacking attempt.

Swift action by the police led to the arrest of the alleged perpetrators right at the scene. In the course of the arrest, one of the teenagers made a bold attempt to escape, prompting officers to deploy a taser to prevent his flight, according to police statements. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the entire incident.

Following their apprehension, the two young suspects, aged 15 and 16, were taken into custody for questioning. Both teenagers now face serious charges of attempted carjacking, underscoring the gravity of their alleged actions.

One attempted to flee and a taser was used to stop him, police said.

Nobody was injured during the incident.

A 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old were interviewed by police and both were charged with attempted carjacking.

The par will appear before a children’s court today.

Another alleged carjacking took place in the same suburb later in the evening.

It is alleged a food delivery driver was sitting in his car on Lester Avenue in Ringwood when he was approached by up to four people about 2am.

Police said one of the alleged offenders opened the driver’s side door and produced an edged weapon and demanded the keys.

The driver ran into a nearby property and was not hurt.

The group then allegedly made off in the Toyota Yaris, which is yet to be located by police.

An investigation into this incident is ongoing.
