SAVANNAH, Ga. — A cold front is set to usher in a classic autumn week throughout the region.

Initially, expect partly to mostly cloudy skies, which will clear by Monday morning as cooler, drier air takes over. A gentle northerly breeze will make its presence felt, though it won’t cause any significant issues except in marine areas. Overnight, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect on the waters, but wind speeds are expected to decrease by morning.

Monday promises to be delightful, with cool temperatures greeting the morning, a sunny day ahead, and pleasant afternoon highs in the 70s. By Tuesday morning, temperatures will dip further, thanks to lighter winds and clear skies, with lows ranging from the upper 40s to lower 50s.

Midweek brings another cold front through the area, reinforcing the autumnal feel with cool mornings and mild afternoons under mostly sunny skies. Rain isn’t expected until next weekend, so drought conditions should be closely watched.

In the tropics, Invest 98-L, a strong tropical wave, is making its way through the Windward Islands. With a 70% chance of development, the Caribbean’s environment is conducive for its growth this week as the system slows.

Although monitoring the system’s path is crucial, the active jet stream and frequent fronts in our region are beneficial. Any development is more likely to affect the Greater Antilles and will eventually be guided away from the U.S. The next storm name will be “Melissa.”

At this time, there are no tropical threats for the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry.
