Queensland man busted after allegedly selling $100,000 of fake jewellery

A man from the Gold Coast is facing charges after allegedly profiting $100,000 by selling counterfeit luxury jewelry, including imitation Cartier pieces.

Authorities executed a search warrant at a store in Burleigh Heads last December, uncovering a collection of items such as bracelets, rings, gold bullion, and cash hidden in a safe.

Following the raid, police continued their investigation as they were unable to authenticate the items’ branding claims.

Further inquiries revealed that the jewelry, purportedly from prestigious brands like Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, was, in fact, counterfeit.

While the store had sold these items for a staggering $100,000, their true value was estimated to be a mere $28,000.

The suspect, a man in his 40s, now faces 22 charges related to the possession and sale of goods bearing false trademarks.

This penalty carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment, or a fine of $181,500.

The man will appear before Southport Magistrates Court today.
