ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — During a flight from Florida to Washington, President Donald Trump proposed that the United States might purchase beef from Argentina to help lower the cost of beef for American consumers.

While speaking with reporters on Air Force One, Trump mentioned, “We are considering buying beef from Argentina. This move could potentially reduce our beef prices.”

Earlier this week, Trump committed to tackling this issue as part of his broader strategy to manage inflation effectively.

The persistently high beef prices in the U.S. are attributed to several factors, including drought conditions and decreased cattle imports from Mexico, where herds have been affected by a flesh-eating pest.

In an effort to support Argentina’s struggling economy, Trump is facilitating a $20 billion credit swap and seeking additional financial backing from sovereign funds and private investors. This initiative aims to aid President Javier Milei, a key ally, ahead of Argentina’s midterm elections.
