CHICAGO (WGN) Vendors at the Chicago Swap-O-Rama Flea Market are currently facing significant challenges and are reaching out for support from both the community and the market’s management.
They are advocating for increased security measures and are encouraging local residents to continue patronizing their stalls to help sustain their businesses.
Sales have already been dwindling, and many vendors blame the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in the city for deterring customers. This issue has been further complicated by a rising boycott from individuals who believe that Swap-O-Rama should have prevented federal agents from accessing the market premises.
Vendors caution that such a boycott will disproportionately impact their livelihoods and the families they support.
“Please don’t penalize the vendors for issues beyond their control. Instead, urge Swap-O-Rama’s management to take action,” emphasized vendor Maritza Jaimes.
