NEWPORT, Tenn. (WATE) — Newport Police Officer Brandon Cassady has been charged with domestic assault and false imprisonment after allegations surfaced that he restrained a woman in a bedroom and prevented her from leaving, according to court documents.

The incident came to light on Monday when a deputy from the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with a woman who claimed Cassady had accused her of infidelity.

In her statement, detailed in court filings, the woman alleged that Cassady forcibly held her on a bed, attempted to confiscate her phone, and barred her exit from the room, with two children present during the ordeal. She managed to contact a man for assistance. According to the affidavit, she indicated that this behavior had been ongoing for several months.

The deputy noted in his report that the woman appeared genuinely fearful for her safety. She expressed concern to the officers, believing Cassady would attempt to “destroy her life now,” as the affidavit revealed.

Newport Police Chief Scott Lamb confirmed Cassady’s employment with the department. Following the allegations, Cassady has been suspended without pay pending an internal investigation. His bail has been set at $8,000, with a court condition prohibiting him from making any social media posts.

Newport Police Department officers were also dispatched to the scene and called upon the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office for additional support.
