NICU patients at Advocate Children’s Hospital celebrate their first Halloween

CHICAGO (WGN) This October, even the smallest patients at Advocate Children’s Hospital are getting into the Halloween spirit, despite being in the hospital. Infants in the NICU are experiencing their inaugural Halloween by donning adorable costumes.

In collaboration with their child’s healthcare team, parents have safely dressed their babies in a variety of costumes, ranging from simple to intricate designs. This year’s creative outfits include a Costco hot dog, a scuba diver, and a nod to Hulkamania.

The beloved tradition also includes a contest on social media.

Photos of these tiny trick-or-treaters are shared on Advocate Children’s Hospital’s Facebook page, where the public is invited to vote for their favorites by liking the images. The baby with the most reactions by noon on Monday, October 27, will be awarded a prize.

“This annual event is all about honoring the strength of our NICU patients and their families, as they are truly superheroes every day,” remarked Dr. Frank Belmonte, President of Advocate Children’s Hospital. “Helping our littlest ones enjoy their first Halloween is a small yet meaningful way to spread joy and bring smiles to the families in the NICU who deserve it so much.”
