GREER, S.C. (WSPA) – In response to the ongoing federal government shutdown, Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) has launched a food drive to aid federal employees who are currently missing out on their paychecks. The airport is collecting non-perishable food items and other essential household goods.

Wednesday marks the third week since the shutdown began, leaving some GSP employees without a full paycheck during this period.

“This initiative aims to bridge the gap until the shutdown concludes, allowing them to receive compensation for their work during this time,” explained Tiffany Cherry, a spokesperson for GSP. “It’s a way for the airport community and people in the Upstate area to demonstrate their support for these workers during such challenging times.”

Travelers voiced their support for the affected federal employees when speaking to 7NEWS, expressing that they deserve better treatment.

“If federal workers aren’t getting paid, then others shouldn’t be paid either until this situation is resolved. It’s simply unfair,” shared Jamie Ralston.
